As we wend our way from January through February, and the light of each day slowly lengthens, spirits lift and we look forward to the new life that will soon be stirring under the soil. What a great time to curl up with a good book. There are some outstanding publications related to life’s final journey that are being published. Let me share a few that stand out for me.
Koshin Paley Ellison’s brings together the writings of treasured teachers in the end-of-life field both touches the heart and inspires. It is about living! Being a collection of writings, “Awake at the Bedside: Contemplative Teachings on Palliative and End of Life Care” is an easy book to pick up when you have fifteen minutes free.
“Modern Death: How Medicine Changed the End of Life” author, Haider Javed Warrich was interviewed on NPR just last week as his new book was published. Read about what our ancestors got right and how dying experiences have been transformed since that time.
And looking ahead to a publication date in March, Frank Ostaseski’s new book: “The Five Invitations: Discovering What Death Can Teach Us About Living Fully” will definitely be a worthwhile read. I pre-ordered my copy back in December! Frank’s beautiful, soul-connected voice always holds pearls of wisdom for me.
And, of course, “Vigil” remains there for your soul-full reading experience.
Select a book and take advantage of the remaining hours of diminished light to nourish yourself with the meaningful wisdom and insights of others. There is so much for us to learn about living from those who are dying. Do it now before our gardens are calling our name!
